APG Tenambit Sharks All Age Women
Monday, 19th August 2019
The APG Tenambit Sharks All age women have had a strong finish to the season. Their game against Uni, who had 15 players available to rotate the girls and keeping fresh legs on the park was a lot easier than the 12 the sharks had due to a few injuries from their previous game and also a couple unavailable, it was a very tough game but all the girls on the park gave 100%.
Going into round 10 which had been washed out due to the rain earlier that week they were playing night game a first for a lot of the girls which distracted them a little as it was something different to them. The game started off a little one sided and unfortunately it wasn’t their way, with Stockton scoring the first goal of the match. Once the girls got use to playing under lights they came into their own knocking 1 past the keeper to go into half time 1 - 1. The second half started and the girls came out firing slotting 2 more goals to take the game 3 - 1 their way with 20minutes to go. The tension on the Stockton bench but with 15 minutes left to go the ball hit one of the sharks players hand in the box, giving Stockton a penalty shot which was successful to bring the score to 3 - 2. Unfortunately in the dying minute Stockton got a runaway from the sharks solid defence and put a 3rd past the keeper to draw the game 3 - 3 to finish the game and once again the girls walked off the park in high spirits.
The following Sunday, 4 days after their draw against Stockton. The girls turned up to play looking for their second win for the season. With Claire sharks central defender injuring her hamstring on Wednesday night decisions had to be made on who to play and where. Without hesitation Claire put on the goalkeeper shirt and stood between the posts and the sharks great keeper Lou came out and played central defender. Just after halftime the sharks were given a penalty for a poor tackle on one of the sharks players. With no one wanting to take the shot, Lou stepped up and put it straight past the keeper. Well lets say it was like winning the lottery the girls were over the moon. Straight back into the game there was a couple of shots on the sharks goal but nothing could get past our wonderful defence and our goalkeeper. So with their 2nd win and a draw in the last 2 games they had to play 1st place team Garden Suburbs the following Sunday.
Sunday rolled around and the wind was blowing at gale force with temperatures of around 6 degrees it wasn’t feeling like a great day to finish the season. only having 11 players with no reserves gave everyone the idea this might have been a one sided game, The sharks were on the bottom of the table and were about to play 1st place but the girls chased everything like they were playing the grand final, First half ending in a 1 - 1 draw. In the second half both teams came out red hot with both teams having shots and showing some great goalkeeping, unfortunately Garden Suburbs hit the ball just out of the reach of the sharks keeper the ball rolled across the goal line to give Garden Suburbs a 2 - 1 victory. It wasn’t all losses though with the Garden Suburbs coach coming over to the girls after the game saying that it was one of the best games of the season and complimenting the girls on how far they have come from the first game, it was very pleasing for the sharks coach and all the girl.
“All the girls would like to thank APG for the wonderful support and hopefully it can continue next year. Thanks again” - Tenambit Sharks All Age Women
