Three years ago, we wrote about the hot jobs for 2015. Trades were at the top of the list with the growth in the construction industry, with healthcare also seen as a major growth industry.
Three years on, we take a look at the industries projected for growth in 2018 and see if there has been a major change.
Here are the top five industries predicted for growth in the next five years.
1. Information Technology
Across Australia information technology systems are now vital to the successful working of all businesses and industries. According to the Labour Market Information Portal, ‘Computer System Design and Related Services’ is predicted to grow an impressive 24.6% growth in the next 5 years.
2. Healthcare and social assistance
Earmarked as one of the top two growth industry over the next five years to 2022, it’s no surprise that healthcare and social assistance jobs are in high-demand. Health Care and Social Assistance’ remains the largest employing industry in Australia with 13% of the nation working in health, and is set for continued growth.
3. Childcare
Working family’s dependence on childcare has increased as more mother’s return to work earlier after having children and hence the need for qualified childcare workers has also increased. Over the next five years, demand for workers in childcare is projected to grow 13.7%.
4. Accountants
Not always seen as the sexiest industry, accountancy is a safe bet that is seeing growth. There are about 193,000 accountants working in Australia today. By 2020, the profession is predicted to grow by 13.3 per cent to almost 220,000 accountants.
5.Logistics and Warehousing
With the growth of online retailing and specifically temperature controlled 3PL, the logistics and warehousing sector is predicted to hold steady growth of 6.5% in the next five years.
